I ran down to take a look at it.

As you read, the engine hasn’t run, I tried rolling it in 3rd to get it to turn, then hooked up a jump starter, lights worked, the motor appears to be frozen up. It wouldn’t budge. Mileage is 28k (+or minus 100k) Valve cover leaks, battery was dated 97, radiator was full, carb was dry. Air filter was brand new, spark plugs are new. Electrical under the hood is complete, doesn’t look weathered or cracked up too much. Transfer case felt good. 3 on the tree shifted smooth. Steering box had obvious leak, front axles and undercarriage looked good. Frame only had surface rust. No pitting rust at all underneath.

The interior is in nice shape. The rust on the front floor boards is minimal surface rust. The rear floor is in excellent condition. All Seats have been recovered and look good. Dash pad in good shape no cracks. Headliner is excellent. No roll bar. Original paint. No rust above rear wheels. No rust inside doors. (front or rear) Rear sill and cross members outstanding. Minimal surface rust under tub in rear. Bondo job under door sills. (typical location) Bondo on the corners. Steering wheel has minimal play, front tires have obvious uneven wear.

Drip rail on front of cab is disconnected for about 1.5 '. Can easily be repaired.

If you have any other questions, PM me, I went over it for about an hour.

The dealer said he had a number of calls on it immediately after confirming the ad. I was the first in line when I arrived. The next person must have snatched it up. I'm going to call him today to find out the status.

Update Sold Last night

Went on CL at lunch, was sold by 5 to someone from Westport (Is that a town, or just a place) who had one reserved up north, and decided to buy this one locally. Don't know who it was.

Maybe my 68 with no motor is worth something.

Nah. Not worth anything. You might as well let me haul that junk off for ya. I'll do it free of charge. :D

What kind of total idiot would by an FJ40 with no working engine?

William after thinking about the description of the transaction from Doug, the owner. Did you buy it?

Nope - not me (this time).

And I didn't even mean to imply that it was me - I seriously would have first checked to make sure you weren't interested before making a move (just wouldn't be right to undercut another mudder).
