Can you do a knuckle swap for disc brakes?
Drive shaft flange different from newer models?

Lane I don't know about the 68 but I have a housing from a 74 you are more than welcome to have if you want it, you are supposed to be able to convert it with a little grinding. I will be headded up to Derry this weekend if you wanted to meet up there.

Don't need it right now, been thinking about another project and was curious
about the 68 axles.

Thanks for the offer tho!

You might wanna search the 40 section for ball and claw axles. Seems to me the knuckles themselves swap but the issue is with the inner axle seal. The old stuff doesn't use a lip seal like the '69 and newer axles. IIRC there is a brass bushing in the end of the housing to support the inner axle shaft that also keeps the grease and oil separated. Someone has found a seal that will replace the brass bushing and fit over the birfield style inner axles but I can't tell you off the top of my head what it is.

IMHO it's not worth the effort to mess with the older axles unless it's for a resto or a stock driver type rig. Getting a birfield-era axle housing is for free is pretty easy if you're gonna do a knuckle swap anyway.
