It's not that we are bad shifters and your feeling tugging or thrusting, it just doesn't feel right when we shift. when you shift from second to third you just hear a clunk and it feels a little loose. It may not be a problem but it's getting annoying. I'd also like to add that i've never owned an automatic transmission and would like to think i'm pretty good at shifting my manual transmission.

Exactly!

Hey guys, I don't think what you are feeling is a problem... more like a characteristic of this type of manual transmission. Toyota makes note of the RA6x transmissions as being of output reduction. This changes the way the gears are stacked along with the way power flows through a certain combination of these gears in order to achieve the desired ratio... that was a mouthful. If I'm reading this right, and I could be WAY off base here, more than one shift collar is moved for the shift to 3rd, which is why you feel a little more notch or effort, along with a louder click. I'm going to look a little further into this, and if I am wrong, I'll post it up.... or if someone else finds I'm incorrect on this, please post up the info.

So, is that not what you wanted to hear?

Ok, all the transmissions in the new FJC's are junk... they have a problem with third gear. It's just a matter of time before they all blow up and puke out their insides. :flipoff2:

I find that if I bring the rpm up higher, it shifts smoothly. The motor has tremendous torque between 2nd & 3rd gear, so its necessary to bring the rpm up in 2nd gear before shifting into 3rd. Try it.
