4WD Question

Hi all;

I have a fj62 the past weekend I noticed two things:

1.- the indicator light in the dash, have the bulb damaged. (the green light that turns on when you enage the 4WD). I will replace asap.

2.- the front shaft all the time is working although the switch is at off position and the selector shifter located at 2H.

What I need to check.???

One of the 2 solenoids might be bad.......the one that deactivates.

Is the green light staying on or not coming on at all......i assume the latter?

1. the bulb could be bad, or it could be the switch in the transfer case that turns the bulb on and off

2. the front shaft is spinning all the time because it is connected to the wheels. most 60 series have 'free wheeling hubs' where you can disconnect the front shaft/diff from the wheels. look for a knob in the center of both front wheels. it should have a 'free' and 'lock' position.

turn these to free when you're not driving off road (and are in 2H) and turn them to lock when you want to use 4wd. but never have one on free and the other wheel on lock, or put the transfer lever into 4wd with the wheels in the 'free' position.

By the sounds of it you have a manual transfer case and not a push button type so there are no vacuum solenoids to worry about.

If he has a fj62 he has the solenoids .....unless someone did that mod.
