Hey All,
im from South africa and i am looking at getting a 1995 4runner. i currently drive a FJ62 and was wondering if i could ask a few questions.
1st- how does the 4runner compare to the Cruiser 62, capability wise off road.??
2nd- fuel consumption would be less, but what fuel consumption can i expect from the 2.4L and 3L V6?
3rd- yes it is a toyota, but how durable/reliable/un-breakable are these 4Runners??

and anything else i should look out for???

thanks allot guys!!
regards,
Neal.

Welcome Neal, I don't own a 62 series but I do own a 87 60 series and a 2001 4Runner. Two completely
different animals. As a daily driver, there is no comparison. I'm getting 22mpg hwy with the Runner where the 60 gets 14-15. Much better acceleration and ride as well. I love the mechanical simplicity of my 60 and it's offroad capability but I've had my 4runner on some rough trails in the Sierras and it has done fine. I think as far as the durability/reliability of a 4Runner you will not be disappointed. I love all
three of my rigs as each has it's own personalities. Go with the 3L V6. A 4Runner is a heavy vehicle and
the extra hp/torque wil help.

Thanks for the reply!!
there are not very many to choose from in South Africa as they were never imported here. there is a guy who wants to swap my 62 for his runner so i was just wondering. i think its a 2.4 22R motor.
the fuel consumption is also better as im getting about 17-20 mpg at the moment with my 62. but the i drive slowly and i hardly do trails. this will be my daily drive. so i drive at around 50-65mph.
how interchangable are the parts with a Hilux??

Not sure about the interchangability of parts with a Hilux. I would think there would be no problem. Have heard lots of good things about the reliability/longevity of the 2.4 22R motor. Best of luck. Can't go
wrong with any make of toyota. Are you just bored with the 62? Post your question on the 60 series
column and you'll get quite a few different viewpoints! Welcome to MUD.

I actually own both. The fuel economy will be 15 to 17 miles per gallon avg.

Off road Land Cruiser is better because of low end torque and solid axels.

Some of the parts are interchangible engine parts and axels you just have to check.

Keeping it simple but boths trucks are great

Thanks guys.
not bored, its just my everyday drive and its a bit big and heavy on fuel to drive in town and parking is not that simple either....
i will check it out and see if it will be worth it....

thanks allot!!

Neal, I have not owned either and know very little about them. I have a '99 with the 3.4L. Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents. I have heard the 3 liter V6 is notorious for problems. If I'm remembering right it was timing and head gasket primarily. Anyone?

I got a 95 4runner with a 2.4l 22re And its got around 250,000 miles on her. Still going strong.
I did have a V6 in a 93 pickup and the gaskets blew. Which I guess is not an uncommon problem.. Unfortunately.

But as stated before the 4runner is pretty heavy, especially with the 4x4. and I almost wish I had the V6 just for more power.

But I get about 18ish mpg... I think it be alot more but I drive hard and usually have a ton of junk in there as well.
