4cyl Automatic 1st Gen...

I am wondering if anyone has a 1st Gen with a 4cyl and an automatic? I have had 3 1st gen two where 3.0 automatics and they did ok.. not great. And one 4cyl 5-spd. I am looking at one now that's a 4cyl automatic just wondering if it could get out of it own shadow... how's the power? Wish it was a 5-spd.... thanks for any help

Edit: Sorry, answered for 1st gen Runner not Taco...forgot which forum I was in! Disregard the below:

My buddy bought an 87 4Runner with 22RE and auto. With a 2.5" lift and 31x10.50s it is a dog. If it were re-geared to 4.88s, or had a 5-speed or (best option) both of those mods, it'd be fine.

He;s talking about a rz unless he put this in the wrong section. They aren't that bad to drive and still have a decent amount of power.
