Hi All,
I have a 12 valve Cummins Motor I was going to put into a fj55 but changed my mind. It has been refurbished and is complete. I live in NE Oregon. I can send pictures via email
Asking $3150
jkleckey@eoni.com
Thanks,
Kyle

Is this a 6b-t or 4bt?

You can stick some pics up on here too. When you post, go to manage attachments below the box where you write(in advanced) and browse for a pic. The pic must be smaller than 80kb. To resize you go into a photo edit software and change the size. Quite a few threads on how to do in on here. Just go to the help section.

Cheers, BB

Hi,
6b-t. My pictures are microsoft so the browser can't see them and I don't have
photo edit software:( any other idea's? I don't mind posting them if I could.
besides, got email?

I'm interested, what else are the details? ie trans, accessories, intercooler, radiator, year? who reconditioned it?, and to what extent?, pm me or send pics to Jballou@bifd.org. Thanks

I don't think Cummins ever did three valves per cylender Brownbear. :grinpimp:

What? where did you get the impression I asked that?

The ad was for a 12 valve Cummins, you asked if it was 4BT or 6BT.

so the 4bt is a 4cyl ? making it 3 valves per cylinder?? And 3.9 L were as the 6bt is 5.9L and a 6cyl?

I am not a cummins guy....I figured they were both 6 cyl ???

Whatever it is its still 4 sale and will make somebody a great motor.

Ummm, he's selling an engine, not a truck with the engine.

Thanks for the smart reply Honk, I got the pics and they don't look like any 12v that was in a p/u, turbo on the left and the injection pump on the right, I think a 12v from a agricultirual or generator. of coarse there will be some one to prove me wrong..well?

This is a very dumb question, but what types of TLC's can this engine go into. FJ60? I am in Oregon and have been trying to find a diesel LC. Maybe drop it into my 84 FJ60?

I am a complete newbie so excuse the dumb question.

thanks

I'm not sure the model is confirmed. It might actually be a 6AT (3.4l?)which would fit a lot better in a 60 but is considered by most to be inferior to the 6BT (5.9l) People have put the big six into 60s but it involved moving the firewall back about 6" and as a result , completely reworking the heating system. Lots of work. I've driven Ridgerunner's 6AT powered pig and it seems pretty cool. A little low on bottom end torque maybe but lots of getup and go once the turbo spools.

6BT is a six cylinder turbocharged engine. It does not have an intercooler, called 'aftercooler' by cummins and indicated by the "A" in certain engine configurations.

It'd be pretty helpful to have the CPL number that is or should be prominent on the plate attached to the timing cover, left front of engine. From what rainyday said it sounds like an industrial install - maybe marine. Is it (or was it) painted tan all over, including the valve cover?

There are a bunch of Cummins engines out there in all manner of uses.

The first digit in Cummins engine designations is the number of cylinders. Both 6AT and 6BT are 5.9 litre sixes. The 'T' means turbo, the 'A' means aftercooler. Both means turbocharged with aftercooling.

You're right on everything else, Honk. 6AT is a 3.4 litre six. Common in Onan Generators. It was never factory aftercooled. Ridgerunner has one in his FJ55.

bzzzzzzzt.

12-valve is common terminology for 2-valve/cylinder 6BT's, so highly unlikely it's a 6AT. 6B-series motors are 5.9 liter, 6BT is turbo'd, 6BTA would be after-cooled. 6A series motors are 3.4 liter indirect-injected Onan-designed engines, typically out of UPS trucks, 6AT is turbo'd (see a pattern?), never seen the term "6ATA" used, though there were aftercooled marine 6AT's I've seen pictures of (UPS trucks were not).

A at the end means aftercooled, A in the middle is smaller displacement A-series engine.

CPL is the certain way to know what the motor actually is (automotive, marine, industrial, and other interesting stuff). If motor is industrial, that might be why Kyle changed his mind about putting it in his FJ55, as the injection pump wouldn't work too well on the street with an accelerator pedal, among other challenges. Of course, the picture could have been flipped 180 degrees, too :D

OK guys I also found out that the oil pan will give it away if it was used in other than a p/u setting the rear drop would tell you p/u front drop would tell you other uses... here is some more info from the valve cover sticker:
120 hp
cid 210
family 472
cpl 1177
mpdel # L634Ta/10854E
6at3.4
and not the pictures were not turned 180 on my side :)

ps this is quite interesting:-D

your basic ex-UPS 6AT, a.k.a. Onan L634T

what does "refurbished" mean, Kyle?

Steve

OK, my manuals are all for B series engines, B3.9 and B5.9, and I have no listing for an A series engine. I pass right by CPL 1177 too, going from 1168 to 1201. It's the books I have that relate to my trucks and I had never heard of an A series. So my bad on that one.

Sounds like an interesting engine. The B series 3.9 litre fours are good - strong but kinda' rough, did the A series precede the B series? Or how old is it?
