Trying to help out a friend who is looking at a Jeep and I would like to get back to him on his question ASAP. as he is planningo on picking it up tonight. So here is the deal, he has very little automotive knowledge. He made up his mind to get a Jeep and took a buddy that knows about cars that said mechanically it looks good. He fell in love with this thing. Larger tires, lift and aftermarket seats. It seems like the seller just installed the seats or something becase he as yet to install the 4 point harness. Well it has the factory roll bar. Now this guy tells my buddy that he just has to drill into the floor to install it. Now this seems strange to me. I have never installed a set of 4 point harnesses but when I have seen them in the past they are ususally mounted to a real roll cage not drilled through the floor. I told my him is sounded hack but I would check to see if anyone has heard of doing this and if you would do it on your own rig.
Hi There Some of the harness companies do have info or instructions {crow, simpson}and here is what i have read. By mounting in shoulder harness to the roll bar above you and you rolled over the harness will not hold you down you will slide up into the v of the harness in other words you will slide out/up hitting you head or breaking your neck. The correct way would be to have a bar just behind the back of the seat the info I have read talks about a certain angle of the belt so it heeps you from moving forward if you hit something frontward. The bar should be around your lower back area from the floor board you see this alot on dune buggies {I build them on the side}.
