If it is a non-split case 4 speed, then it will bolt right up. You also need a PTO drive gear for the tranny output shaft. The 4 seeds did not have this unless they came with a PTO attached.

The PTO driveshaft and shift linkage will both need to be lengthened.

Thanks Mark. Much appreciated. Is that something I can take off my 3 speed?

No. The output shafts are diff (10 and 16 spline). It can be purchased aftermarket and *maybe* even from the dealer). Or at lest the last time I needed to buy one it could be. It has been a while.

Gotta love SOR, they seem to always stock the oddball parts.

Show us some pics of your ride and the PTO in question!

In case anyone is interested, I picked up a used output gear for the 4 speed from SOR for $75. They had them new for around $135.

Is this the PTO gear or the 16 spline 29 tooth gear you need to use your earlier three transfer case with a four speed? The PTO gears are pretty easy to find compared to the special output gear. I know I have a couple of them floating around.

the pto gear. The guy from sor said I won't need to use the spacer that's in the 3 speed and then I'll just need to lengthen the driveshaft for it.

Here's a pic the day I brought it home. I have it out of the truck now.

Would need a better picture of the winch to tell but it looks like it came off of a 62 or earlier cruiser. Those only had a single roller on the bottom. The later ones had four roller fairhead and support bars running to the back angle iron. The windshield in the truck is earlier than 66 also. Is there a round brass tag attached to the VIN plate? Pretty common to have a cruiser titled as a later year back in the early to mid sixties.

I'm getting ready to put the gear in and I'm wondering if I have to split the transfer case from the tranny to do it. I'm not at home, but my dad was going to put it in today and he called and said it looked like they had to come apart. Does anyone know? thanks.

Yes you do.
