I had a question about an issue that I am having with my 2000 4Runner. It is a manual transmission and lately I have had an issue with the Emergency Brake light turning on when I shift gears above 2000ish rpms. It turns off right away, but I am trying to figure out why this might be happening. Anyone had this issue with their 4Runner?

Thanks,

Ian

Should have done more research on this before I posted. I found out that if the brake fluid in the master cylinder is low, it can turn on the ebrake light when you shift, especially in lower gears. Need to top off the fluid and I will see if that works.

The switch for my E brake is real sensitive. Sometimes I have to push the handle back down when driving. It only moves maybe an 1/8", but enough to trip the sensor.

You should also check the condition of the brake material. The level lowers as the pads/shoes wear.

When I bought my 4Runner the Ebrake was super tight I accidentally broke it.. Too lazy to fix it yet plus not sure where the cable break is.

Topped off the fluid and no ebrake light anymore. Fluid level wasn't that low, but adding some solved the issue.
