My 35" tire on my 40 sticks out and makes seeing the drivers brake light and driving light hard to see. I have seen this done on other vehicles but not on a cruiser to date. Needed an LED light that was the correct size and bright.

Went to superbrightleds.com and found just want I wanted. Had to cut a hole in the spare tire carrier for the wires but other than that it was a 5min install. Fits perfect in the rim and doesn't need anything to hold it. When I need the spare I just unplug it and pop it out after I take the tire off.

wait a minute, I am looking for a stock skidplate!!
PM me the year, I need one for a 77

Should be the same for any 4 speed 40... and his lights don't look like a pre 74.

Now you just need to figure out how to help people see your turn signal... Relocate the spare higher?

35s aren't big enough to be scary enough to keep other drivers far enough back.
You don't need an LED, you need bigger tires.

How about this from a 2003 and up 70 series troopy and pickup - I'm sure Cruiser Dan could source them. Nice and bright, LED, fits the curve of the roof perfectly as it is the same angle on a 70 series. Mine came from an LX 70 series, so it is the same colour grey as they bumperettes, etc. Otherwise they are black:

Chamba, that is sweet!
Does it stick into the interior at all?
I hope we get to meet up sometime.

No, it mounts flush. Only need 1/4" hole for wire (Toyota uses separate ground unlike many aftermarket ones which use the mount for ground) and three small holes for screws. Then the plastic cover clips on over the LED fixture. Very well made.

Likewise: I'm in Colorado fairly frequently but seldom in ft Collins. Rising Sun swap meet?

Yessir Pablo: class of '93. Ralfie has been on that truck since I bought it in 2005 in Australia. I even made a pretty good friend in Australia who was a fellow alum and waved me down on Greenhill Road to get my details. When were you at CU?

Definitely planning to attend the RS Swap Meet - have not been in years. Assuming I get the time to do a couple things to Lexie, I'll be driving her up. Be great to meet you there. Will your rig be done by then?

I bet Cruiser Dan could source one new. Short of that, try a few wreckers in Australia and see if they can send one - shipping should be fairly cheap as it can't weigh more than 2 lbs. Try "Just Wrecking Toyota" in Wingfield, South Australia. Ask for Rod and tell him you are a mate of Josh's. His number is +61 8 8359 4499. That's where I got mine and they seem to have a few at any given time as Toyota is still putting them on the new rigs too.

Has anyone found a good way to add a third brake light other than in the center of the tire? We have a hard top BJ42 and are looking for something ... this is what I can find:

Which may or may not work as it is and another I could try and make a bracket for:

Has anyone found a good one to locate on the roof itself -- perhaps a light strip along the gutter?

Eric

This is what i did about 12 years ago. Still looks like the day i installed it.
