I am just about to remove the body from the 80, so things are moving along with the porject. But, I have been thinking..bad I know. That I am a little worried about running the high pinion 3rd on the 80series axles with them re-geared. I plan on running the same size tires as my other 60 series (37" MTRs)

My question is this, Will the h55 be enough for 4.11 and 37s on the road. I am not worried about offroad yet, becuase I know 4.11s at 37s will be lacking ont he trail big time.

Would first gear be low enough to start out with the 4.11 and 37" combo. I Would really really like to run this tranny but just worried about it on the road.

I have 4.56 and 37 on Velveeta Wag and the combo is awesome on the street and not too bad on the trail becuase its the west coast and there is no traction.

So, I am thinking the the 4.11s and the lower first gear might work.

Any ideas would be cool...

From the reports Dunbar and others with a H55 behind a 3FE I would think it will be fine. All you ever hear about is how fast they are off the line. Most of those folks have 33's, so you truck might not be fast off the line but I would think it would have the gears to move it around just fine.

Why can't you regear the HP front? Or are you just delaying it to get on the road faster?

Isn't that like having 33s and 3.7s? It works, but starting from a stop takes some extra clutch. After you get rolling, it's great.

I doubt that the lower first gear is as big a jump as going to lower gears, but maybe with the extra engine power, you'd be ok for a little while.

the HP 3rd of the 80 series has been known to explode with lower gears, I am harder on my crap than most of the 80 series folk. I just dont feel like having that big a of a weak point on the front end. Plus some day when this truck is done and starts to get wheeled rather hard a toy box is the answer for lower gears...

Sounds good so far, Looks like thats the plan then...

thanks for the responses.
