So I am not sure if this is a good spot to post this but I am having an issue with my fj60. Is has a sbc 350 and i recently had a 700r4 (early series) tranny installed. After I had that swapped in the truck started acting funny. I would excelerate and it would shift 1st and 2nd fine. When it came to shift to 3rd it acted like it was starving for fuel. So I checked the fuel filter and it was packed with rust flakes. Replaced the filter. Tried to pump gas through the line to clear any risidual. It's still doing it! Is it the 700r4? It didn't have this issue when I had the h42 mated to the engine. Is it my timing? Did I miss something I should have cleaned too? I started to prep a fuel tank swap but wanna ask for opinions first. Any help is appreciated.

I'd say it's probably all the fuel tank and not the auto. Not sure why it's only happening in 3rd but clean the tank. Not sure on FJ60 stuff but if it has a bung then drain the fuel out, fill it with salt and vinegar, let it sit for 48 hours, drain it again, hose it out, salt and vinegar again if you need, hose it out, then rinse it out with kero or metho or something to displace all the water, fill er up with gas again and bob's your uncle.

I would say the 700R4 is not putting rust chunks in your fuel..

I'd take a closer look at your tank. AND, see if the recall has been done.

After doing some research I have another question...would the size of the new fuel filter have any corrilation with this issue continuing. The reason I ask is that the fuel filter I had on hand is smaller than the clogged one I removed.

likely no, I've seen some very small fuel filters used on TBI 350's.

If it's clogged tho..

Ok so pulled the fuel filter again and it is packed with rust flakes and debris again after only a 50-60 mile round trip. Put a new one on again and runs fine now. Gonna drop my tank this week and see if it is worth getting cleaned or if it is worse that I thought and go with a fuel tank swap.
