A couple of months ago I rebuild the steering box on the 69', and since then I've not been able to get the tranny to shift into first or reverse with any consistancy. I know the linkage is out of adjustment, just really not sure how to make any corrections needed. Any one know of any threads on this or had any experience with adjusting the linkage? :meh:

Never done a Yota, Ford had some pretty interesting ways though.

If it's like a Ford, the trans ears will have slotted holes that you can slide the linkage up/down in. The linkage may also be adjustable. The trick is to adjust the linkage so it reaches in both gears. This may require sliding the linkage within the trans ear in both gears. This often requires adjustment of the linkage length as well as the pivot slot location.

Clear as mud?

Also have to watch the steering column parts. If they are loose/worn out, you can't ever get things to work exactly right.

Yeah, this seems like one of those adjustments that would take a mechanic years to master...well maybe not years but one could spend a boat load of time messing with the linkage rods and still not get anywhere, plus you really need two people to really do it right.

Looks pretty easy. There should be either adjustable stops on the column, or it will just stop due to a fixed stop.

Then all you have to do is get it adjusted in one gear and the other should be pretty close, with just a little fine tuning.
