Well I've been pretty busy with my engine swap, this project has become the definition of "scope creep". I'm doing the frankenstein swap (no single donor, all parts) and ran into a small snag on the throttle body. When I saw the block with a cable attachment on the throttle body I assumed I was good. However when I hooked the cable up I found out it only turns the throttle 50% open. I took it apart two days ago thinking something slipped on the return spring, thats when I found the motor.
After some searching on Yotatech and Pirate it looks like the cable is a failsafe for the drive by wire but you are in limp mode with the cable. My block is from an 02 4Runner and my ECU is from a 99 Tacoma, my ECU is not built to work with drive by wire.
I believe my two options are to either get a normal throttle body or modify the one that I have. The normal throttle body has the Idle Air Control Valve, my ECU would need a couple circuits wired in to run the IACV. If I modify my current throttle body I would need to address idle issues since the drive by wire system eliminated the need for an IACV.
I think I want to go with the old throttle body option. If I could get away with modifying what I have that would be awesome. I have a welder and more time than money. I was wondering if anybody else has dealt with this in a different manner.

At work now but I can get pics tonight. Also I promise to buy a star in two weeks.

When did they swap over to drive by wire? And I may be missing something, but if the 99 ECU is old school, why would you need to add circuits? Shouldn't you be able to swap it for the correct TB and go? Maybe I am interpreting it backwards or just dont understand but to use the DBW setup would require the circuits in the 99 ecu, otherwise a 99 TB should basically plug and play with the ecu, right.
