Hey folks, has anyone tried to remove the “20” portion of the 40/20/40 2nd row seats on the 2016+? I thought it might help the kids access the third row

There is not a 40 20 40 seat configuration. It is 60/40. The middle seat has a drop down arm rest that can also be a full drop down including the plastic part surround for pass thru. There is a lever for that near the latch.

To reprise. I don't think it splits 40/20/40 for removal or tumbling. I might be wrong. I have the 2008 so I am not on your level. I think it reclines independently but that's it. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. Promise. 😂

As other have said...it's not like that.
But I can see why it might *look* like it's 40/20/40...bc from the cargo area view, the middle looks separate.
...but it's just that the armrest connected to the 60% passenger side can be up or down.
The big seat section stays put along with the armrest.

In these photos of sleeping arrangements I use with drawers, it looks like a missing middle section again, but it's just the armrest either up or down. You can't create a floor space in the middle.

Below, the armrest is great bc it completes the mattress base...making the left side sort of like another 60%. So I like it.

In my '08, the seat functions more or less like a 40/20/40, but the "20" portion is firmly and permanently attached to the passenger side "40". As @Markuson said, you cannot create a floor space below the 20.

This is copied directly from the 2008 ebrochure:

Reclining leather-trimmed 40/20/40 split fold-down second-row sliding bench seat with center armrest and adjustable headrests

Could be different on the new trucks, but I doubt it.

Its interesting you brought this up because just yesterday i was at the dealer parts dept and looking at some all weather mats they had and it listed all the part numbers and I noticed the Sequoia having the 7 seat option, so second row captains chairs. Man would that be nice for those with 3+ kids. I cant tell you how many parents I know with multiple young kids that ONLY look for vehicles with 2nd row captains chairs so that kids can access the back without flipping a seat up.

It sure would be nice if they offered the LC with second row captains.
