It's a few months out but I figured I'd get the planning thread up and going.

Last year we had a club camp and shoot which turned out to be quite an adventure and a lot of fun. So, let's do it again!!!

Dates: Friday 12/6 to Sunday 12/8, this is the weekend after Thanksgiving so hopefully we won't have a lot of crowds.

Where: BLM shooting area off of split mountain. We will head east as far as practical to reduce the likelihood of crowds and will have the feather flag up to make camp easy to spot.

Attendee list:
- Elripster + 3 boys
- Coredawg01
- Honky Tonka + boy
- Phulcrum + boy
- -Justsendit
- HonkyTonka, 2 adults, 5 teenagers.

Rough schedule:
- Friday: Arrive, set up, eat, fire, enjoy a beverage, maybe try not to stay up until 2AM but it happens when you are having fun. I will be picking up my kids around 3:30 in San Diego and heading out from there. I should get there around sunset. If anyone can get their sooner and can stake out a spot maybe you can take the feather flag?
- Saturday Morning: After breakfast we will wheel to the trestle so Tim can finally do it. Each time he has tried, something happens. Last year we rescued a couple and their truck that got stuck out there the night before. Check the last camp and shoot write up for details on that fiasco but suffice to say Tim was thwarted yet again. Not this time, Tim, you are going to the trestle!
Saturday afternoon: We set up and shoot, shoot, shoot! We will select a range master to help keep us safe and organized. I will bring 2 boxes of clays and some targets to contribute. If anyone has a thrower, chime in, we could use one or two. I will contribute a table and easy up as well as a 12V battery to run a thrower. If we have a good turnout again, we will need more tables and if possible easy-ups.
- Saturday night: Dinner, I am open to ideas for theme / potluck. We can then enjoy the fire and just hang out.
- Sunday, breakfast and depart at your leisure.

I will have my 3 boys with me so will bring some firearms suitable for younger aged kids including the air soft for Brennan.

I am looking forward to hanging out with everyone, it's been a while!

I'm in. I'll get out there Friday by noon I hope!

The boy and I will be there

If Tim makes it to the Trestle, we should push our luck and head to the Swingsets and Tank!

Sounds good to me!

I updated the attendee list.

As of right now I should be able to make it. Putting it on the calendar!

Now attending. 2 adults and 5 teenagers

Awesome!

Friends, it's shaping up to be a big event. I have some friends coming from my kiddo's scout troop. We will have a good number of kids at the range so I am thinking we might want to organize ourselves to optimize range control. If kids were to just shoot with their parent, that would be easy, but I suspect they will want to try different things and we parents can only be at one of them so we will need to make sure they have some supervision.

I propose we have 3 tables to divide up the long guns, pistols, and shotguns. We should have 1 adult at each table to monitor activities with one of these adults being the main rangemaster. We adults who are heading up tables can rotate so we get to shoot a variety of stuff. I think if we do this we can keep things organized and most importantly, safe.

This was on my mind too, Frank. I have 4 15yo that will be shooting so I will drill down on safety and hopefully they can help keep an extra eye on the younger shooters. I will have my own table with just the firearms I brought because I am the most familiar with loading, operation, clearing jams etc. Anyone is welcome to try something out but I would only feel comfortable if I was there watching.

That is very helpful and good points all around.

My 2 cents: I think we should avoid having a "free for all" at the tables. I think it would be smart to designate a number of shooters per table (may just 1 or 2) and then kids would have to get in line to shoot. Makes sense to have firearms organized by classification or by owner. Also would be smart to communicate to the older kids to lead by example since the younger ones will be looking up to them. I have run boy scout rifle ranges in the past, and organization and strict rules are always the keys to keeping things from going haywire.

Agreed. We have done this in the past and it worked well.

Looks like our crew will be heading out early Sat morning now. Hope to be there around 9am. Any dinner plans for Sat yet? I'd be down to go big. Especially if Justin is involved.

I'm probably only going to be abe to join on Friday afternoon and overnight. Its my wifes birthday on Saturday so unless I want to sleep on the couch for a week I'll need to get back Saturday morning

I am down for dinner ideas. I'll bring the flat top and lots of propane. Thoughts?

I'll be heading out there around the same time. I'll ping you when I'm getting close

After speaking with TheTim, tritip is the theme. I will bring a big old can of beans, chips, salsa, and quacamole to share. I might combine forces with the TheTim on a big ole steak.

Frank

We will bring more Tri tip, crock pot beans, french rolls and condiments for kid friendly tri tip burgers. Probably some version of a tater tot.

Danielle also going to make a couple pies
