I have a line on a 24v xd9000 from a fellow mudder. I know the 8724 is the end all be all for 40's but is it worth the extra coin? The 8724's are averaging around $1800 to $2000 + new and while if you wait around and search you can get used ones for a reasonable price it's hard to find a 24v model. I can get a lightly used (or so I'm told, "2 pulls") 24v xd9000 for less than half of what a new 8724 is going for, should I pull the trigger or wait until my budget allows the 8724-50?

An XD9000 is pretty much half the cost of a 24V 8274 in any case.

Almost any 24V winch is going to be quite a bit stronger pulling than a 12V winch of the same type.

The 8274 has to its merit speed and the ability to un-spool under power for long periods as you're not running against the brake.

They are both fine winches, if you're going to be doing a LOT of winching, then the 8274 is the better choice.
