24V or 12V compressor for 1982 60 series 24v Landcruiser

Don't mean to be dumb but should I get a 24V compressor if my 2 12v engine batteries make 24 V output?

In theory you can just tap into one battery to get 12VDC to operate a 12 volt accessory. From various posts on the topic you can probably get away with this once in a while with-out affecting the batteries too much. If it is to be a regular thing then a dedicated 24VDC -> 12VDC converter should be used. Search the Diesel forum (a lot of 24VDC folks over there) for specific recommendations for converters.
