How the heck am I going to get this darn solenoid to shut down since the truck is 12 volt?

We planned on making the truck start 24 volt and run 12 volt.

1978 FJ45 recieving 1HZ.

Rob,
can you explain more to me, i think i understand but explain what is 12v and what is 24v. Shutting the solenoid down sounds like just using a regular relay and running 24v through the switched leads and 12v through the coil. I've done this everywhere on my 13bt in the fj60 for my start/ign/racor heater/walbro pump/etc...

as for start/run 24/12 i'd suggest going to a truck supply and getting the solenoids there. very common in the trucking industry...

1HZ is 24 volt including shut off, hot do I shut off the 24 volt fuel shut off?

I was thinking of making the engine 24volt start and 12 volt run like the 80 series cruisers.

My guess is it would be easier to run the truck full 24 volt and throw in a converter to run all accessories.

Looking for some ideas?

Thanks

Rob,

It seems to me that Toyota uses the same fuel shut off solenoid in 12V and 24V applications. Try it with 12V first.

Thanks

Aparently the 24volt fuel solenoid will work on 12volts.. You have an engine there..try it.
You could in swap in a 12v fuel solenoid... but if the 24v unit works no need..

Rob,
if the solenoid doesn't work with 12v just use a standard relay to throw the 24v with a 12v switched coil side. Works great even though the relay doesn't specify this operation.
