I'm replacing the head gasket on my '88 Toyota pickup 4x2, and I decided to go with a Felpro gasket set as I read many positive reviews for that kit. When installing the head gasket, I noticed that after I lined up the gasket with the doles on the block, there was a slight bend in the gasket - meaning it did not sit flat on the block. I found that with my hands I was able to flatten the gasket and it looked ok, so I installed the head. I am now connecting the exhaust & intake and having second thoughts. Please let me know if this sounds like a normal gasket, or if you think I received one that was not correct for my application (everything else matched up though...?).
I need to have this ASAP, but I want it to be done correctly the first time, as I will not have time to tear this down again. I'm at the point where if need be, I could pull the head off quite quickly to replace the gasket if faulty.
Here are some more details for the truck in case they help:
195,000 miles
valve grind and resurface on the head - first time off
replacing gasket as water and oil were mixing
no signs of overheating
as soon as the problem appeared, I stopped driving the truck
Thank you in advance for your help.
