Hi all,

Recently started going through a new purchase. 1986 toyota pickup with a 22r.

The truck will only start with the pedal all the way to the floor and then idles rough and takes some foot work to get it to run.

After a few min it purrs like a kitten.

I started having occasional dieseling

Hesitation on initial accelerations in 1st and 2nd.

Today I checked the vacuum lines and tried checking the AAP. The sight glass doesn't look like it is filling properly.

After plugging the AAP it starts and turns off fine. Then I let it sit while I flushed the cooling system and it hard starts again!

From the receipts I see it is a new carb as of last year.

Any input would be helpful!

Trying to fix myself before I cave and bring it to the shop...

I doubt this will help, but once it is running well, you can run the RPM up to 2k or so and then clamp your hand over the carb can cut off the air until right before it dies and then pull it off and let it recover. That can clean out the jets if dirt or rust is clogging things up, but probably not your problem. Truck i learned to drive a stick on as a teenager did the same thing yours is doing and it was the automatic choke. I don't remember what the fix was.

Even brand new carbs can have junk in them. Buy a carb kit and rebuild it. Use a vacuum gauge to fine tune the carb.
