REGISTERED!!!

So does my 1990 HDJ81 counts as a relic? I know in the states we still got the 62 in '90. I just want to make sure it's okay before registering and commenting to driving 27 hours.

Stand by. We're researching precedent. Out of curiosity, what is your production mo/yr as listed on the door sill sticker?

It doesn't have the door sill sticker being an import but it's an 05/1990 build date.

Regardless of if it counts or not a Relic is not needed to attend! A small majority of attendees bring 1990 and greater trucks, including myself in my 200 series. The 1990 and lower cutoff is just to be considered a Relic and to be included in the Relic only activities saturday (the Relic-specific trail run and the car show lineup)

05/1990 is a 1991 model year. My 60 is a 10/86 build date, but it's an 87 model year.

Yours isn't a relic, but you should still go!!

*disclaimer; I don't run this event, but the year 1990 was originally picked specifically to exclude all 80s as "relics", since the 80 was introduced with the 1991 model year*

EDIT: See my follow-up post below. The 80 was introduced for the 1991 model year in the US, but in Japan it was introduced for the 1990 model year. TIL!!

Yeah you're correct here, 60 series was made in Japan until sometime in 1990 so we say that as that date for simplicity to not just name all models. Apparently 60 series were made up until '92 in Venezuela and if someone goes the trouble to import one of those I'd feel bad if we excluded it from being a relic!

That tracks, but I don't believe mine is a 1991 model year, I can be wrong. The 80 series was released in japan October 1989. Anytime I put my Japanese vin into whatever, it comes up as a 1990 HDJ81. I don't know how the Japanese do their model years vs actual build dates. I remember it not being like the US when I lived there but things get lost in translation

I assumed that they picked 1990 because of the 62 still being sold new in 1990. And that's what brought up my question of my 1990 81.

Thanks everyone!

Interesting, didn't know that. Looks like it was unveiled in oct of 1989 at the Tokyo motor show, then launched for sale for the 1990 model year.

We had picked a model year back then because it was an easy cutoff for the 60/80 in the US, but I guess we failed to consider that the 80 was released in Japan in 1990. Either way, not a relic, at least in my eyes. Cool truck either way!!
