Here’s a 2016 LC at a Toyota dealer in TX. No photos yet, but VIN is available: JTMCY7AJ2G4042503
I’m inclined to take action on this car, but have a few concerns. Would like some advice on what to look out for.

Carfax is clean (only an open airbag recall) but the Toyota service history shows some oddities:
The smoke and fluid are more of a concern. It can’t be that hot in November, even if you’re running the engine and a/c at an evening drive-in. Why the smoke? Why the fluid? Toyota coolant is red, but so are transmission and brake fluids.
So, are these red flags or normal events?
Why did driver let it sit for almost a year?
Do these point to familiar problems (I can’t seem to find any on this forum)?
What should I inspect for? Anything to address before warranty expires?

Carfax is clean (only an open airbag recall) but the Toyota service history shows some oddities:
- 11/10/17 – 10k miles - Customer brings to dealer for oil change. Also complains of wet passenger carpet. Dealer confirms wet carpet, but subfloor is dry. Next steps is return to pull front seats and check if cooler box is leaking. Need to reschedule. No follow-up is recorded.
- 12/18/17 – 14k miles - Back to dealer. Customer noticed smoke coming from hood while parked at the drive-in (presumably the Big Sky in Midland) then found red fluid under vehicle. Also “NOW ALL W ARNING LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED ON DASH CHECK AN AD
|~E ~|” Dealer adds Qty 1 of Super Long Life Coolant. Performed multipoint visual inspection. No other notes or work provided. - 12/28/17 – 15k miles - Brings to out-of-state dealer for 15k complimentary service. No other service notes. [ I’m guessing owner happened to be on a Christmas trip and went for the service.]
- 3/8/18 - 20k miles - Oil change and multipoint visual inspection.
- 5/8/18 - 26k miles - Maintenance inspection and tires rotated (not on Toyota records, possibly because ToyotaCare is expired)
- 2/23/19 - 29k miles - Car for sale at dealer. 3000 miles in 14 months vs 26,000 in the first 24 months.
