New to the forum and have a question on 1GRE compatibility over the years. I did some searching in the forums, but didn't find a whole lot. Here is my situation. I picked up a clean 07 with 147k and a thrown rod that punched a whole in the block. My question is, am I limited to the 2007-09 engine years or can I use something newer? I found one out of a 2014 4Runner with 53k, but don't want to make the purchase if they are major modifications required. I don't mind making some, but don't want to have to get crazy with it. I've thought about trying a 4.7, but that looks like it requires significant work. If anyone else knows different please let me know. I'm all for the V8 power. Thanks.
