A well-priced, loaded 2005 4.7L V8 4Runner 4WD has popped up locally from an individual. The only thing bugging me a bit are the 99K miles on the odometer. On the flip-side, he did just have the 100K mile service performed including the timing belt. I've typically never been too afraid of miles but do not know enough about the late model 4Runners to make a well-informed decision.

I've been thinking about selling the Cruiser lately to get something more refined for daily driving. I've considered buying a little econobox for daily driving but really can't justify three vehicles. :p

Thanks.

I would think a 4.7 is going to be quite a bit harder on gas..it is also a full time 4x4.
My 05 tundra could drink it but was quite a bit heavier I think?? dbl cab 6 foot box 4x4.
Is this a sport model as the Xreas sport suspension is an added maintenance item over an sr5 model.
Locally a v8 model over the v6 is running at least $4000 less I think... mind you there should be a break even point somewhere in there for a minimally driven 4.7L runner if the buying price is cheap enough.
Resale will likely be tougher as well though.... my thinking is if you are going to consider a 4.7 litre why not get a sequioa... same drivetrain bigger vehicle... usually less than a 4runner

I've considered a Sequoia and even a newer Land Cruiser if the price is right. Both will get substantially better mileage than my '93 (10-11 mpg around town).

i likely should not say same drive train.... not sure about tranny, xfer and even the diffs... I'm thinking if I ever move up to a 4th gen runner I am going to keep my eyes open for a sequoia as well for a DD. Have seen for sale with as high as 216,000 miles so they should go a while if looked after.

to answer your original question, the 4.7 is a very stout motor and trans combo. At 100k you have many more years of service. My 4.7 has 90k without a single hickup. Make sure you do a once over on the entire vehicle, and if the price is right, go for it.

The only issues I have heard of is driveline clunk on acceleration. Its usually hard to hear and from what I have read doesnt damage a thing.
I have a buddy with over 120 on his 4.7 with no issues. Hes getting around 15-16 for mileage. Im getting close to 22 with my 4th gen, V-6 runner.
