Looking at an 01 runner with a 3.4L auto... what sort of mileage are you guys getting? Factory tires said to be P235/75R15. Does that seem right as my 96 has 16 inch rubber on it?

Its been several years, but I seem to recall my '01 4Runner had 265/75R/16 Dunlops on it from the factory. I could be mistaken, but that number seems to stick in my mind.

Should have 16's unless its a stripped down 2wd model which might still have a v6 as you said. Those tires are going to look pretty small. The mileage would be artificially high because of the small tires and mileage reading being more than actual miles driven.

Mileage should be mixed at a little under 20, maybe 18. Highway as good as 21-22mpg. More or less depending on driving style. If you get significanly less I have heard that a bad O2 sensor can be a cause, but not trip the check engine light. I have no personal experience with that however.

I agree with Jetboy-mid year in 1999 model year 4Runner Toyota went from
15" to 16" wheels.
I am running a '99 V6 5speed. 18 mpg is about right for the city/22 highway. Yours may be about 1mpg less with the automatic-significantly less with a lead foot on the accelerator. I got around 14mpg my first few tankfuls after coming out of 22R-E 4 cylinder this V6 felt like a rocket.

they most likely are 265/70r16 michelin ltx m/s tires from the factory.

my moms 99 2wd limited gets about 24mpg with that size. she drives like a grandma (but shes not one, yet ;) )

my little brothers 98 v6 base has the 15" 235 tires and they are tiny compared to the 265's

i have an 01' with 60k miles, 3.4, 275/75/16's it gets 15mpg, best i ever got was 21mpg with the slightly smaller stock tires.

my wife drives a 00' with 137k miles, bone stock, same milage.

we both live 1 mile from work so usually no biggy, but I tow a 21' baja boat ALL summer and milage is about 12 with boat.

friends with full size p/u's with 350 v8's get better... WTF!

how much is the o2 sensor? maybe i'll try that.

great site! some guy pulled up next to me in traffic and told me about it!
