I have the 2002 model. For those who don’t already know, these two years were equipped with a transfer case that’s center diff would only lock when in 4WD Low Range and the transmission column shifter in “L”. The problem with this is that if/when you manage to get the CDL engaged while in Low range and “L” or 1st gear in the transmission, as soon as you change gears (reverse, drive, park) you are no longer in CDL. Frustrating!
My fix requires no additional switches. My fix engages the CDL as soon as you shift from high range to low range and stays locked for as long as you are in low range irrespective of what gear your column shifter is in (P, R, N, D, 2 or L)… My fix does NOT engage CDL while in 4WD High Range. I personally don’t want or need CDL in High Range nor do I want a switch/button someone could push and cause the transfercase to switch into 4WD with CDL.
Anyway, do this mod at your own risk.
