I am installing a 1hz from a 105 into an 80 series which was previously fitted with a 1hdft and I’m struggling to work out the wiring as it’s been chopped up.

I believe I have found the glow plug power cable which runs back to a relay up on the front of the left side guard. The relay has two small coil wires which have been cut off. Question is what colour wires should run to the coil on the relay and what should connect to the other pole on the relay?

I have 2 conduits left over, I’m guessing they are for glow plug wiring, one leg has a large diameter cable which is white with little black dots and two smaller wires, one white with a black stripe and brown dots and the other wire is black with a red line and silver dots. The second conduit has the other end of the large diameter white cable with small black dots and 2 small wires, one is black with blue line and brown dots and the other is grey with brown dots. Any idea where these go? Is it possible the 80 should have a glow resistor fitted in he inlet manifold? The 105 series didn’t have this.

I also have a two terminals with no home, one terminal has 4 wires and the other has a single wire. Could this have been for the glow resistor?

Any help would be appreciated. I’m confused as to if this is a fixed delay glow system with only a single relay or the other system which runs two relays. Where would the second relay be fitted?

I can power 12v direct to the glow plugs and it starts and runs fine.

Are you trying to use the 105 wiring, or 80s?

You should be able toss away the 105 wiring, and just use the 80s wiring if its still intact

I’m using the 80 wiring but it has been hacked up when the 1hdft was in there so there is a few chopped wires around

1HDFT had the heater matrix in the inlet manifold, relay under one of the batteries , relay notorious for melting down.

IIRC the heavy white wirecomes from the relay to the Hester matrix ....OR....from AM1 in fuse box to matrix relay.

Mine is HDT so no proper reference but, the cable size colour is the same as mine, only difference is mine is to glow plugs and not matrix, not a lot of help but the 24 valve motor is rare here.

EDIT : The pic with the tag showing four wires looks like a typical Toyota earth tag, nothing heavy there so perhaps try connecting it to earth via a fuse?

Regards

Dave

Sorry, I read it as replacing a 1HD-T.

Glow plug wiring diagram attached for 1990 1HD-T, 1HZ.
Hope it helps
The wire colors are marked e.g. B-W (black with white stripe)

Hi I have a fj45 troopy that I have put a 1hz into & l'm having trouble with the glow plug wiring.....
The pre heater is wired the same as the above diagram but my glow light doesn't come on at all
I am getting 12v from the ignition side but I am also getting 9.5ish volts from pin #3. Is this normal or am I missing something?

1 other question is relating to the sequence of the main & sub glow relays
Should they both be activated at the same time then after a few seconds the main relay voltage drop out & then after engine warms the sub drops out?

Any help would be appreciated
Ken
