Hi Folks, I've taken apart my FT motor after weeks of trying to diagnose a knocking sound, and found two damaged pistons. Looks like the previous owner got it very hot at some point and no1 and 6 grabbed the cylinders and are badly scored.
I'll need new 0.5mm over pistons.
OEM are hard to find and very expensive. Some companies like HDAutos in Australia say they cant recommend any aftermarket options and only use genuine.
There are some very cheap and some very expensive aftermarket options like Terrain tamer at $440NZD each
I can source FTE pistons. They are a slightly different bowl design. But do they work in an FT?
What are thoughts on just replacing the two damaged bores and leaving the remainder standard?
I have some performance parts on the motor, running 15-20psi, nothing serious but certainly not stock.
Im based in NZ. Appreciate the help.

Genuine 0.50 mm oversize pistons: https://partsouq.com/en/search/all?q=13103-17091 (USD price)

Terrain Tamer just put their mark-up on genuine parts, or supply aftermarket parts at high prices.

Regards aftermarket pistons, where do they come from? No name/brand = China or maybe Taiwan.

Thanks for your reply, Im looking at pistons on Partsouq and Amiyama. They end up expensive with the NZD conversion and including the shipping and tarrifs.
I have seen from a couple sources now that FTE pistons will fit are in fact an improvement, but have also seen people say no they are a very different bowl design and not to be used in an FT. I have found a set in NZ very affordably, would love to know if this is true
