Hi all!

As some of you might know I have a lot of projects, but a side-project just felle in to my lap.

It's a 1HD-FTE with an A442F trans!

How i got it is a long and weird story, but here goes:
A friend of a friend had the damaged remains of a VX100 sitting in his yard. it originally belonged to a friend of his, who bought it in Germany, but lost interest in it. (read financial trouble) so the partly dismantled car had just been sitting there for years.
Finally it was to be scrapped, no doors, no wings, destroyed interior, major damage to the rear ect. but the engine and trans was there!
So I got it, if I wanted it. I pulled the wiring yesterday and the engine and trans today.

The weird thing is that a lot of parts, like the pump, plenum and other parts, have been removed, but were placed in the cab...? One of the diesel pipes is missing too? So it seems that somebody bought the car for spares at some point or started removing the engine and gave up... Probably after reading how hard it is to get running in another car! ;)

My plan is to put it in my HJ60 (talk about upgrade!)
But... Im okay with a welder, electronics is not my forte!

I know that there's a lot of electroublnics on this engine, and I will figure them out, but I might need some help! So if any of you have - or know some who has - used this engine in a transplant please let me know what to look for!

One thing I know will be a problem is that the key is missing! Does anybody know a way around the immobilizer?

Thanks!
Christian

P.S: while scouring the forum for answers I ran across one who had put out a vaguely similar question about immobilizers and he was hung out as a car thief. I must point out that this vehicle was NOT stolen, but a rear-ended wreck imported from germany.

I think you'll find the expertise you want on outerlimits4x4. There is at least one guy there who has fitted an FTE to an earlier vehicle. Can't remember his name though.

Link to their toyota forum:

Hi Christian. What most owners do is use the fuel pump off the earlier 1HD FT and avoid much of the electonics associated with the 1HD FTE pump
As Dougal said, you will find others who have done this on outerlimits.

"Diesel fuel pipes"? Do you mean the injector lines from pump to injector?
Apparently its a 100000klm replacement on these but not many do it unless they leak

Thanks Dougal, I've posted there too now.

RoscoFJ73, I've read the same, and it might be the solution. But I would really like to get it up and running as is for several reasons. Pride (I know, it's stupid, but might as well acknowledge it) Free HP, Price (I have the FTE pump and injectors)...

-and btw, yes, I meant injector lines, in Danish its just "diesel pipes"...

The problems with trying to run the 1HD FTE pump as I understand them is that the pump ,via a computer ,is attached to numerous sensors in the dash, throttle, transmission and other places, which only the vehicle that originally had the 1HD FTE will be wired for.

You could could get a good dollar for the pump and buy a 1HD FT pump with the proceeds although the 1HD FT pumps dont grow on trees.
I dont think there is a huge HP loss using the older pump.

But if you can make the 1HD FTE pump work then Im sure others like me will want to know how:D

Is there a difference between a mechanical 1HD-FT pump and a 1HD-T pump?
Does anyone know the max fuel delivery for each?

I think you're right. And i might end up doing that. But from what I've read the mounting and the injectors are different too...

But i really hope that I can make it work, it would be ultra-cool in a 60!

The problem is that I haven't been able to obtain much info on the subject though...

Hello,

Sometimes I cannot tell electronics from witchcraft...

If you can make that pump work, you can also count me in on the others-who-want-to-know list.

Big differnce in price;)

I imagine the fuel volume would be different too with the 1HD FT having 24 valves

I guess you have head start having a complete(almost)donor to start with.
Now you need a degree in electronics to fathom it all:D

I think this is what your after

1HD-T top
1HD-FT bottom
1HD-T FU82.webp
1HD-FT EG162.webp

Out of interest, heres the ECU wiring diagram for a LHD HDJ100 (1HD-FTE) :hhmm:

Hey thanks.

Those volumes (~80cc/thousand shots) are enough for the 1HD-T pump to deliver over 530Nm. Enough for an FTE to deliver what it was originally supposed to.

Does it list calibration values in there anywhere? That would let me calculate BSFC (engine efficiency).
