Ok, so in towing my FJ55 home this past fall, my engine and transmission on my Buick LeSabre overheated, and did NOT like me that entire trip... It was only 50 miles, but to make a long story short, my intake gaskets are leaking. Has anyone replaced the intake gaskets on a 3800 Series II engine, and if so how hard is it, how long did it take, and any tips & tricks? I have the Chilton repair manual, the mechanic says ~5 hours for him (means 3 days for me), and a good assortment of tools & a pretty good grasp of auto mechanics. However, I have not worked on anything newer than 1974, so I'm a little leery. Thanks in advance, I plan on doing it over spring break or when I can finally pull my 40 series out after the evil, corrosive salt has been washed away.

That's awesome that you towed a pig with a buick. I am pretty sure there are going to be more problems with the car than the intake gaskets just because of how heavy the pig is vs. the buick.

The gaskets aren't that hard to do. Mark all your electrical connections, disconnect the fuel rail, and you should be good to go.

I think they all start to leak after 60k miles.
