You’re moving along a lot faster than me and I’m a mechanic! My stuff always tends to get pushed to the back of the line though. On your welds, some of them look like a bunch of tack welds. Which doesn’t look that bad but it’s not as strong as a continuous weld. No offense and not trying to discourage at all. Welding takes a lot of practice to get good at. Welding tips and tricks is a great channel on you tube. I’ve learned a lot from him and he’s a great teacher. Good work, keep it up!

let's see that sweet new gas tank!

Are you sticking with the A440? I see a torque converter but you also said “5 speed”…

Looking great 👍🏽

I’m doing a h55f and taking off the converter from what I heard the automatic is a power robber and the 5 speed lets it enjoy whatever little power it has

Never drove it with a 5 speed tho I wouldn’t know just seems like the cool thing to do

Having had all three I will say this:
- The Auto is slow AF to get going but shines at freeway speeds. True overdrive.
- the H42 is almost perfect gearing until you want that extra gear. With the 4.11 you run out of headroom really fast. On my FJ40 with the H42, 3.70 and 33” tires it’s pretty perfect. If you like 70-75 ish as a top speed.
- H55 is weird, I don’t understand the gearing. It’s not as intuitive as the H42 and while 5th is nice it’s not nearly as much overdrive as the OD on the A440. First is generally pretty useless for everyday city driving. 4th and 5th are pretty close together so they play well for downshifts but need to be upshifted at the right time for that classic feel.

Honestly, if the H42 didn’t take a dump on me I really would have considered re-gearing to 3.70 and keeping that. Of course hindsight and all that.

I am glad I have a 5 speed transmission ultimately. I’m not changing a thing for awhile if I can help it.

That’s great info brother thank you! Definitely useful

That is why I always recommend the 10% OD gears with the H55f when going into a 62. Shifting everything up that 10% helps out a ton with the odd gear spread.
@arnak maybe we can chat about those parts today 😁

I'd love to drive one with the 10%^ to see what that is all about.
