Hey all,

I'm researching how hard it will be to import a 1984 BJ60 Diesel

I found some info saying 25yrs or older, and you are good to go...

Then found info stating it will be subject to 1976+ emission standards for diesels, and not sure if this will
meet those standards.???

I know a few of you have done imports like this...any info would be great!!!

It would be imported directly into New York State...where it would also be registered...

thanks!!

Since this is an 84, thus older than 25 years, there is no federal restrictions on importing this vehicle. EPA restrictions are only for 21 years and newer. State inspection requirements may be different, but in NH, there is no emission test or requirements for vehicles over 15 years.

Canadian? If so, the truck will have a 17 digit North American VIN which is easier to work with the DMV and insurance companies.

jsaltlick imported a BJ-70 from Canada and should chime in.

Go for it.

It could be on fire and they would let it into the country. Feel free to PM me or hit me up on FB. I can give you my cell #

Thanks. I figured it was good to go, but wanted to make sure from folks who have done this...

THANKS.

My 70 was under 25 years at the time so I had to do a ton of paperwork and jump thru hoops

Emissions on 84 diesel..

I had a 84 or so diesel rabbit. I do not think there were any emissions equipment on personal vehicles then. Or any diesels. Just as long a it does not blow out black smoke like a 4-6-6-2 going up a long grade. (Coal fired locomotive)
