a couple of questions. i am not sure which would be the best way for me to go. what all do i need to do to remove the body tub and cowl from the frame in one piece??? what all do i need to remove just the tub from the firewall back?? i lack cutting the two front body mounts where the floor boards are. i have no access to a plasma cutter. what would be the best way to cut the body mounts?? sawzall is to big. any diiagrams and info would be greatly appreciated. i am assuming i need to remove the transmission, transfer case and gas tank, but have no d irections on how to do it. i guess i will just drive in and see if i can figure it out. the picture is to show what i mean but cutting the body tub from the cowl if i do it like that do i have to cut the two remaining body mounts that i lack?? they are right near where you see the cuts were made in the picture. thanks please reply steven

I used an impact wrench to get the hard bolts and they twisted right off. A grinder is handy too.

If you need a body mount kit i still have the spare one that came with my aqualu tub i could sell you for a minimal fee plus the cost of shipping. (I used one from Energy Suspension)

That kit should have the two front mounts you need. PM me if you want them.

what is your plan after you remove the tub?

my plan is to start working on the frame and get it down to just the frame eventually. we dont have an engine hoist either. i have a grinder. does anyone have info as far as removing the tranny, transfer case and gas tank??? will the body mounts you got work for a 79 FJ40?? i will need the whole body mount kit eventually. thanks please reply steven

Removal process

You do not have to remove the tranny/transfercase. You may want to drop the gas tank from the tub, but if you can support the tub on the corners high enough you can leave the fuel tank in place attached to the tub.

Obviously you will have to disconnect everything that goes thru the tub or the cowl before you can remove them from the frame.

The tub/cowl is held on with only 6 mount bolts. The two forward ones associated with the cowl are tough to remove without damaging the frame or cowl. Dremel with a cutting tool and flex shaft, working from underneath to cut the bolt and nut would work. I cut mine with a 4 1/2 cutting wheel after I separate the tub/cowl. Easy access. If you plan on doing tub/cowl together, I would recommend dremel.

73 body mount kits are not compatabile.

Good luck! Very heavy to lif off, and must go rather high to clear the frame iif you leave the gas tank in place .
