Hi, anyone here have any experience or know of anything good (or bad) about Hauser Machine in Garner, NC? They will be rebuilding our engine (I think). I’ve spoken to the owner, Billy Hauser, who has been very responsive and has some knowledge regarding these engines. At least that’s what my gut is telling me. And I do recall someone here mentioning to me about Hauser for some head work. The older I get the less I remember. Thnx in advance.

Billy Hauser has been working on Toyota engines since Hauser Machine was T-Hoff up in Raleigh years ago (Billy bought the shop when the owner retired, then moved to a better location in Garner). T-Hoff was widely known as the place to go for Toyota engine work and you'll be hard pressed to find someone more knowledgeable in this area on our old Toyota engines than Billy. He did my 2F for me a couple years ago, with great results and I have sent several people his way since.

Sidebar, if you have your 2F head machined for SBC valves, springs and seals, make sure you use a standard SBC valve spring (220 lb. seat pressure), NOT the Z28 springs that are typically used for "normal" Chevy builds. The Z28 springs are 280 lb. seat pressure, which is too high for the relatively soft cams on our 2F's and will wipe the lobes in short order. I went through 2 Delta Cams regrinds before figuring out what the issue was. (grumble, grumble, grumble......)

Thanx for the reply and yes, we are going with the SBC head work. BTW, may I ask, did Billy do the cam work or did you get that done and also, what pistons did you go with?

I had Delta Cams to the grind for me. Billy had someone grind the lifters, but in hindsight, it would have been easier and less expensive to send them to Delta with the cam.

I had Billy source my pistons, but since then I've found an excellent source for Toyota 2F parts.....magengines.com. They're based in Dubai and have lots of parts for our older engines. Excellent pricing, and very reasonable shipping. I got a full set of rod and main bearings, complete gasket kit for under $100. Shipping was $35....I ordered on a Sunday afternoon and the package arrived via DHL at 1:30PM the following Wednesday. I was amazed at how fast it got to me.

I've sent several folks to them since, and they have also had excellent experiences.
