Getting close to finishing the paint. The painter that offered to help me paint flaked out on me, so I have been painting it in my driveway. Also, I noticed that the paint for the roof that was supposed to be Shell Ivory is actually Shell. So instead of paint for my roof, I have a quart of paint for an '83 Tecel. I actually thanked the paint guy for going the extra mile and doing the research to find the right color for me, just to find that he just mixed something that sounded close.

OMG, I love all of the work!! I love the fact that you made some of your tools, and could use them on this project!! no stone unturned on this one!!! That drive train looks amazing, everything is so fresh and clean I can see what some of those things were that mine were missing. I was just wondering the other day what the yellow letters on the side of the trans said! Keep up the good work! I also love that color, and I love your detail when it comes to paint. The booth, taping to avoid over spray, nothing left that you hadn't thought of!! **Subscribed** :-D

6L4. Toyota 'light olive'. Common on 70 series, not so much on 40s.

I have been working on the wiring harnesses while I am sitting in front of the TV in the evenings. I have been replacing all of the terminals and connectors, then re-wrapping everything. Good thing I have been too, because I ran into this melted mess near the fuse box. I'll be cutting out the cooked chunks of wiring and soldering in replacement sections.

VERY nice restoration

I was wondering how long this took from start to finish? I have a 1964 FJ that I am planning to start on and my wife is always saying "how long is it gonna take". Which means, how long is the garage going to be a mess!

There are so many variables, such as your experience level, how much equipment you have or a willing to buy, how much work you farm out, if you have cash available for everything as you need it and how long it takes find rare parts, etc.

I did not keep track of my time at all because I just enjoy working on it. But, if I had to guess, I'd say 1200 hours so far maybe? I really have no idea. You could save a lot of time by farming out all the media blasting and the paint and body work. Obviously, the number parts that you replace instead of rebuild, restore or refinish will have a big effect on the amount of time also.

My wife has never been able to park in our garage in the last 25 years, God bless her. She just stays clear of it unless I need her to help me push a car or hold something, or like yesterday, help me line up body bolt holes!

Thank you for your reply. Luckily my cruiser had all of its OG parts, or at least most of the hard to find things. I just had a bad experience where a guy had my cruiser for about 9 months, said he was restoring it and then disappeared. Finally found him and recovered it but he was definitely NOT working on it. Lost 5K and after having shotty work done on other cars im just going to do it myself. I have always done all my own mechanical work but the body work will be a new thing for me. Do you know of anyone who makes the bug catcher style vent wing seals?

Bodywork takes a little practice, but there is so much how-to information out there now, that it is pretty easy to pick up.

I bought my vent seals from Specter Offroad.
Good luck with your project!

Zags- Where did you pull the rotisserie? If you come to 29 Palms (only a 4 hour drive) with it I will let you shoot cool guns and take your dirt bike riding.
