My FJ is due in May. I'm planning on a 3" lift and larger tires. I'd like to go to 16 inch black steelies so I can have the extra sidewall off road. Has anyone tried to fit aftermarket 16's on there FJ?????

I got some on now. They fit good. Only thing is make sure you get the correct back spacing. I had to put 1/4in spacers in the front because the caliper was hitting the rim.

Backspacing WILL NOT help clearing the caliper. The angle of the cone stays constant regardless of the backspacing, and the reason why you are hitting the caliper is due to this angle.

Break out the grinder and grind away, only way to get it wor work. I have tried and tried to find steel wheels that "will work" on my 62, and I must have some goofy over built aftermarket calipers, because the only fix I could find was grinding...

What he said. Steel wheels sort of "come up" to the spokes faster or at a greater angle than alloys, that's why it's challenging to find them.

How wide of you think you can go with the stock 17" wheels? I thought I saw someone post that they were 7.5" wide. I'd like to go with 16's but I'm not willing to pay the big bucks for alloys that I'm just going to bang up.
