Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I remember reading here about using this weight. What was the reasoning for it?

Thanks........

Do you mean Mobil 1 0w40? it has a large following here, I am going to try it for the winter, search there is a lot of info already here that you can read

If you do man 10w40,

10w40 in mineral (dino) is generally not well liked, it takes a lot of Viscosity Index Improvers to make that large spread, VII's are microscopic plastic coils that expand when heated reducing the thinning effect on oil at higher temps, unfortunately VII's are also the first to degrade in oil leaving you with the base oil (10wt)

Synthetics need a much lower dose of VII's to make wide spreads as the base oil is more stable with temprature changes on its own ( none in some brands / weights )

wasn't there a Delo 10-40 that Cary was especially fond of ?
(been eyeing it at my local Costco, $1.60 or so / qt)

If you want to use mineral oil, I would recommend Chevron 15w-40 Delo for summer, and Delo 10w-30 for use bellow 40f. If you live in a really cold climate (less than 0f starts) and use mineral, sub the 10w-30 with a 5w-30 for winter use.

Costco carries the Delo 400 15w-40, six GALLONS for $25 or something. This is the oil I recommend. In fact I have 4 gallons at home waiting to go in my in-laws BMW and Mercedes.

I just started using the Shell Oil Rotella T syn 15-40. Works fine so far. I wonder how it will do in the winter though. (Iowa winters can get chilly).

Wow... that's excellent. The local Wally-world sales if for $6.86 a gallon.

Where can one get the Delo 10W-30 for winter..? I've never seen it in the stores.

Thanks,
