Hi Brains trust, hoping someone's come across this issue before and can help resolve.

2000 model 105 series with the 4.5L 1FZ-FE coil pack motor / auto gearbox that started shaking the whole car and low on power / misfiring / backfiring out of the blue one day. The issues limited to within 1200-2000RPM window.

Engine shake detectable at idle but most notable when taking off under minimal load and also when at highway speeds rolling back onto the accelerator after coasting once above the 2000RPM it revs out and runs fine i.e. accelerating to country road speed.

The motor has 380,000kms, it's no spring chicken and smokes at times from the inherent 1FZ-FE leaky valve stem seals.

I've been chasing the issue with parts as It's been due for a few items but to no avail and need it back on the road : (

- Spark plugs replaced with OEM NGK equivalent (all were black colour from running rich assuming due to old leaky injectors)

- injectors have been replaced OEM 450cc (ones pulled out looked to be originals)

- 3x coil packs replaced (spark checked by plugs out cranking over) Leads appear to be working fine and firing order by coil is connected to correct cylinder

- Replaced cam posi sensor while manifold was off for injectors

- Left hand engine mount had deteriorated and split which i think was exacerbated by the motor shaking so violently. RH and trans mounts are old but not deteriorating or split not warranting replacement yet. The shaking has calmed down after this new mount so is dampening the motor issue

- appears to have had an O2 sensor delete from previous owner due to fabricated headers / exhaust (has been running fine without it during 2 year ownership)

- I took out the crankshaft posi sensor and gave it a clean, as well as contact cleaned the plug - sensor had a bit of gunk buildup on it (not keen on spending another $250 just yet)

- unsure how old the fuel filter is, but assume a clogged filter would cause issues from idle throughout the rev range (ditto air filter - newish)

- Checked the driveline for gearbox / transfer output shaft and uni joints movement and appears to be only stemming from the motor

Any help saving my sanity appreciated!

Cheers, Neil
