Story below for those interested, but looking for trans shop recommedations.
Noticed a chatter today that seemed to only happen when the converter would lock at low speeds and stop when unlocking. Took it by a local reputable shop about an hour ago and the owner immediately questioned what made me think it could be the tq converter and how I'd even know when the converter locks/unlocks. Bit insulting but hey he's the pro mechanic. We go for a ride and him and another employee immediately think it's a heat shield. Put it on a lift and they bang around with a mallet, conclude that it's the heat shield over the muffler. He tells me not to worry about it. Sounds good to me but my gut says that's not right. I drive home and notice that when I turn OD off the chatter stops, now more convinced it's in the trans.
Get home and post in the 100 section, first response is doesn't sound like the trans, replace the heat shield. At this point I'm questioning myself and decide to take a video/audio. Video below, 7-14 seconds is the chatter, again from 23-25 and then there's some vibration around 32 seconds(I thought it was from the road) ..38 seconds is the grand finale POP and then I immediately turn OD off and limp it 1/2 mile home.
This is in my 2001 DD, not the trail rig.
