Can anyone help me with accessing the power antenna motor on my '99? The mast cable has broken in such a way that I can't get to the remaining cable from the top of the fender.

remove the plastic splash cover / inner fender liner on the inside of the wheel well and have it - the motor is mounted right there against the frame or sheet metal (cant remember which) in a plastic bag. unbolt the motor from the frame and a couple of screws gets the housing of the motor open, pull out the old cable, and put the housing back together, bolt it back up to the sheet metal and turn the radio on and make sure the antenna is all the way up, then turn off the radio while feeding the new mast down the hole (helps to have 2 people here)- entire thing start to finish took about 40 minutes ( I could do it again in 15) just go slow - its really pretty easy once you get started. I would go ahead and get some plastic clips that hold the fender liner in place - i cannot ever seem to get them off without breaking them

I just did this job yesterday, instructions above work perfect. It's not too hard. One hint...when you remove the 3 torx bolts there are plastic clips underneath that need to be pulled out. they are the nuts for the torx bolts. You won't get the liner out without removing these.

Just replaced mine today. 1 hr job. I have noticed if the radio is on and I use the manual antenna switch it will only go down to about 1-2 inches from total retraction. Once the radio is off it will finish going down to flush. Anyone have this situation?

Seems to be the norm.

Yes, and it seems pretty absurd too. It means that if you are listening to a CD, there is still a bit of antenna protruding (and usually the thinnest part of it), ready to get broken by a low branch.

DRSALES: Yes, that's correct. When I am listening to the radio, I also have discovered the antenna_down button does not retract the mast all the way. It sticks out about 1 to 2 inches. So I just set it all the way up, and I let the automatic up/down feature do its job.

DANDON:
My power antenna only sticks up when I am listening to AM or FM Radio. It retracts all the way down when I push the CD button, or turn OFF the Stereo system. I can go through the car wash with a CD playing and the antenna is snugged all the way down. When I pull out of the car wash and want to hear the Red Sox game again, I press Radio/FM and the antenna pops back up.

(Do you know any Boston Red Sox baseball fans in Madrid?).
