This doesn’t really change anything for us with plated vehicles. It actually makes things worse because it opens the roads to SXS.

Most roads in those areas already are opened to all ATVs. Outside of 37, 10, and 55 it’s pretty much fair game. Oh and random forestry service roads that are closed in general… ask me how I know that! One threatened federal offense by 2 sheriffs and DNR, opened my eyes to those 😂

Kinda scary. How do you find out if a specific road is closed in those areas?

I asked the same question actually! I was told “consult the map every year, it changes all the time.”
This was a USFS road that had a VERY small USFS badge indicator on the post, but no clear “NO ORV” signage. Worst yet, my wife was driving and my dog was going apesh!t, while the sheriff questioned us. We were in our SXS, not the Cruiser. We had just bought it and registered that week, so that gained us credibility of we had no clue where to be. After reading us the riot act and scaring the crap out of my wife when they said, “this usually is where we call in the USFS, they impound your machine, and you go to jail and wait for appearance in federal court in GR.” They decided we would be let off with a going off trail ticket that cost $175.
Our cabin was on a road that was deemed “No ORV” and the next year opened back up. So it really is a check the map annually situation in Lake County. No issues since, but a lot of time we are in the Cruiser on trails now.

Lake county is absolutely awful for this kind of stuff. I generally avoid because they will hassle you about anything

Never had any trouble in my Cruiser, but I think it’s the “street legal vehicle” vs ORV type of thing 🤷🏼‍♂️. We can go places an ORV can’t at times.
The Ranger is more for property management at our cottage anyway, but before we decided to trail ride the Cruiser we were out in it a few times.
We only had any issues the one time. That said, I’ve seen several people stopped off on the side of the road/trail, but almost exclusively in SXS or on ATVs of some sort.

X2 on the Lake County Sheriff about the trails. Several years ago, I was on the Consumers powerline trail for the first time after being told how great it was. Of course it was the first year they enforced it for no trespassing (had no idea). The steel towers were brand new and there was no signage anywhere. Lake county jumped on us within 30 seconds of getting on the trail. Scared the crap out of my and my buddy's kids. The deputy was not nice at all at first but cooled down after a bit and threatening "6 different tickets". I asked why it wasn't posted and he said "Consumers Energy doesn't have the money to put no trespassing signs on these towers"

Ya, right. They are on there now.

They proceeded to insanely tailgate me all the way into Luther. I have had great experiences with Sheriff's deputies statewide except for that one in Lake County
