Hello to all, I am wondering what kind of mileage any or all of you who have the newer FJ's are getting? My window sticker claimed 24mpg for highway which is what I do but I'm not getting any better than 17-18mpg. I have just a little over 1000 miles on it and am wondering if the "breakend" will help with the mileage. Any ideas how to increase this? I cruise at 70mph and don't do a lot of stop and go driving. Thanks to all, Mike

We have an 07 but saw some good improvement as the engine broke in thru 3 to 4 thousand miles. But I think your biggest issue is the speed, if you drop it down to about 60 mph, the mileage goes way up. I also think thats near where the Feds do their mileage between 50 and 60 for ratings. Good Luck !

I have a bone stock 07 5AT and have averaged 23.026 mpg over 13,293 miles and 49 tankfulls. Worst was 18.843 and best was 25.870 but I live at high altitude (7,200' elevation) and drive mainly rural and highway so I'm sure that has allot to do with my great mpg.

Why would living at altitude improve fuel efficiency? I would think the thinner air would have the opposite effect. I know you loose power at higher altitude unless you have a Supercharger or turbo. Please enlighten me.

At 7,200' where I live the air is 25% less dense than at sea level. That means that the I make 25% less HP. Less HP means less fuel on a modern ECM controlled FI engine.

So, I gain mpg but loose HP and TQ as compared to a sea level vehicle at the same rpm. A tradeoff. Now if I supercharge or turbocharge, it's a completely different story.

i have a 07 my miles per gallon went up quit a bit after about 4000 miles it is a auto best milage was 23.2 doing the speed limit on a hunting trip. worst was 15 towing a 2500 pound boat and trailer.

Keep in mind that you are driving a box kite. Toyota probably never took this thing even close to a wind tunnel for fear of ridicule. BigYellowFJ is correct. The Feds check highway mileage figures at 55MPH (left over from the national 55 speed limit we had to endure for 20 years). The faster you drive beyond 55, the worse your mileage will be as that poor engine tries to overcome wind resistance which increases exponentially.

Bad Mpg

i have an ARB bumper 33" tires 3.5 lift
and i get an ave of 15 MPG....yeah it hurts
moab will be even more costly this year!!!:bang:

The test the Feds run is in a control environment, no hills or wind, in fact I believe it is done indoors.

Thanks for the reply everyone....I only have a little over 1000 miles on mine so I'll keep chuggin' along and see what happens in a few months. Thanks again, Mike
