Shortly after buying our CPO'd 2000 LC-100, the CD player crapped out as I heard is common with this unit. The dealer denied extended warrantee coverage (shoulda bought a Lexus!) so I blew it off & lived with it. Prices for these are now reasonable on ebay for good used units so I bought another one for the same price as the repair estimate for my old one. The old one wasn't worth fixing since the on/off/volume knob broke in addition to stripped gears in the changer mechanism, so I gutted it just to salvage the good CD's that were stuck in it.
Sure enough, my wife or one of my kids had loaded a home-burned CD with a stick-on paper label that had wrinkled and jammed. The seller of the replacement unit assures me it's ok to use home-burned CD-R disks without a label, but not to use CD-RW's. Here's some more info he passed along about loading & unloading CD's and he stressed NEVER to push the "CD" button when there aren't any CD's in it.
"One thing you may not know that you will find useful is that you can load several CDs by pressing and holding the LOAD button until you hear a beep from the unit. Then you can load CDs one at a time when the word LOAD appears on the display and the lights on the sides of the CD slot illuminate and flash. It works to eject them, too. Just press EJECT until you hear a beep. Then remove the CDs one at time as they are ejected."
I'm hoping if I operate the new replacement unit (A56811) correctly, it will last longer. Will see. Seller offered a warrantee with it.
