Well, this may be a common occurance for you all but I am feeling like Bert Monro on his 1929 Indian 45 Incher when he set the land speed record for under 1000CC motorcycles back in 1962 or so.
I hit 103MPH on level ground at 8,200 feet in a 1987 FJ60 with a mostly stock 2F. No rocket booster needed. The cruiser had been at the shop for time getting a new set of diff gears (4.56) and a carb tweeking. I already put an overdrive tranny in. The EGR system, air pump, cat converter and the stock air cleaner all went awhile ago. I run a K&N round air cleaner that pokes through the hood into a reversed air scoop sucking cool mountain air. I also upped the tire diameter to 32.5 inches.
Tried it out on the road from Taos, NM to Penasco. On a long flat straightaway I pegged the dial at 85 and had a lot more throttle to go. I had a "pace car" (my wife) with a real speedomter following me.
Now, you all may have accomplished this long ago but after nineteen years of crawling along in my FJ60, hitting 103 MPH was a big thrill. Accelerating in fourth gear on grades I used to take in third was also a thrill.
The FJ was suprisingly stable even with a full length roof rack. As you all know, the FJ60 is about as aerodynamic as brick. I was expecting some wander on the skinny tires (245 X 16 X 85) but it tracked well. I would not want to attempt entering curves at this speed. Nor will I continue hitting the throttle like this. I was curious what that 2F was capable of once unshackled.
