Well, thank god for ebay. The dealer on the SE side of Indy w/ the 80 I posted up a couple of weeks ago got a taste of reality I guess. He had the 80 on ebay Linky and got now where close to his asking price. I actually won the auction, obviously w/o meeting the reserve.

Sealed the deal tonight, will take posession tomorrow.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, what to do first, other than remove the pin striping and getting her some new shoes.

Having choices on wheeling vehicles is gonna be a switch. I won't let the 40 get too lonely though.

I look forward to all/most of you guys input:flipoff2:

Nice AJ.....

Now you have to take it to Toys for Tots next month....

Congrats.

Lift the sucka, throw some 35"s on it and wheel the piss out of it!

Hahahaha loving the teal pin stripes. But congratulations on the new ride! lockers?

Egad, those stripes are hideous!

Congrats on the ride, quite a find...

Capocaccia, it's got the locker switch on the dash, but who knows?

Nice rig (minus the pinstriped of course!)

I'll bet $20 that "lucane senord" in the ebay ad questions section is a scammer. ;)

hhhhmmm.....mine has the tan interior, but it's a dupe otherwise....can't wait to see it at TFT!

can't wait to see it at TFT!

I'll need new shoes and I'd like to have sliders before TFT, however I'm not above wheeling it w/o sliders.

I wheeled mine sans sliders for a few trips....including Tellico and Attica...
....get on the phone and get 'em ordered up!!

what shoe size ya goin for?

If my 4x4 Labs rear bumper arrives soon, I may just wheel the 80 for TFT...unless it's actually "warm"....lol

Well, I have no problem with going w/o, but I'll still need to loose the running boards right?

I'm thinkin' 33" BFG AT's, opinions? It's going to be a bit before a lift, leaning toward the OME 2.5" Heavy.

Now that's funny right there.........

Nice rig with a great price. Leave the teal stripe...I didn't like it at first, but then it started growing on me :)

correct, ditch the boards...

I run 285's on mine, Cepeks....Romer has a GREAT tire FAQ in process...I may come up with a set of 315's for some trips next summer tho...but 285's are perfect for daily use and the towing I do (course, a headgasket and SC are on my list presently too)

I presently run heavy fronts with the ARB/10k TMax and medium rears...it rakes just slightly and rides well. Not sure yet how the 4x4Labs rear bumper will effect the rear set yet, may just toss in a pair of 1" MrG spacers if it's a little low...

A good drill motor, a product that body shop guys call "an eraser", and about twenty minutes a side will get rid of those stripes.

I like getting rid of the boards, but new rubber will help you determine how you want it to ride because they'll be the single biggest thing to change it. Then do the bumpers, OME lift, etc.

I like the virgin plastic on the interior...very calming look compared to all that plastic coated fake wood we all have.

Nice rig!

Well bought! Makes ya wonder what the PO was smokin when he/she had the stripes put on. Congrats.

Soon after pulling into the garage the pin stripes were off. The pass. side had to have seen more sun, the drivers side peeled off really easy but the pass. side was brittle. MUCH better.

So the new #2 thing to get done is the drivers side front wheel bearing, it's shot. I knew that prior to purchase, but got caught up in thinking of mods and spaced it. I'm off to search.

Thanks for all the comments! I don't think I've ever been this excited about a vehicle purchase!

Question: Where is the best place to snag a service/shop manual for a '96 FZJ80?

P.S.- The GF is a little miffed that her Solara Convertable lost it's garage spot, hehehe:D . Hey, I had to let the 40 and the 80 meet and get to know each other. She'll be back in there before you know it. Wild to see the garage & driveway full of Toyotas. I had a Chevy 2500HD w/ the 8.1L/ Allison (496BB) CC SB before this. While I loved that truck 11.2 mpg was starting to wear a brother out.

Thanks all,
A.J.

Nice!!!

I too vote for ditching the running boards. The first ime I ever wheeled my 80, I took it to Badlands to see what it could do. The runnings boards were pushed up so close to the bottom of the doors by the end of the day that I was worried that I wouldn't be able to open the doors after another good landing! A few whacks of a sledge got them back down and I was lucky not to have damaged the rockers.

Carl can probably get you hooked up very reasonably with some good sliders. ;)

Search using Keywords: FSM, Publication*

There is an 800 number to order directly from Toyota
....or....
You can call C-Dan and order it through him
....or....
You can download electronic versions from TIS. (Harder than it sounds but the payback is tremendous.)

I recommend getting both the printed FSM and the electronic versions of ALL of the manuals. EWD, Body Repair, FSM, Tranny, and a few others. Details are in several threads you should be able to find using Keywords: FSM, TIS

Lemme know if you need assistance with the SEARCH.

I respectfully ask that you go back and edit the TAGS you used to start this thread.

TAGS=40 owner goes higher tech

This will not enable anyone to find anything and will only confuse future Searchers. If you cannot think of meaningful tags then just leave them blank.

Timken bearings are usually on the shelf at Advance Autoparts for the 80 series at at least half the price of the red box from Toyota. Otherwise a local bearing supply house can hook you up with whatever bearing brand you desire; if you have part numbers. I know the part numbers have been posted up before...

Good luck!
