This thread is reserved so that Todd can put up a couple of pictures and a list of mods for his built 4-door Tacoma. (If he ever has the time to venture from the Vehicles For Sale forum...)

I don’t know how interesting this will actually be but I’m happy to share what I know about the truck. It’s a 2001 TRD double cab Tacoma with the V6, automatic transmission and 104,000 miles. This is Larry McRae’s truck that All-Pro used for Tacoma double cab R&D. It has an All-Pro front suspension kit w/ 3” adjustable coilovers, Bilstein shocks and chromoly upper A-arms. All-Pro transfer case skid plate, All-Pro sliders (sensing a theme here?), All-Pro front bumper with a Warn XD900 winch (controller is tucked away neatly behind the grill). The rear is also All-Pro, 3” lift springs and an All-Pro rear bumper. It currently runs on Mickey Thompson beadlock wheels and 285 75R16 BFG ATs but I will probably upgrade these something more aggressive. It’s now much muddier and has far fewer All_Pro stickers than shown in these photos.

I’d like to add something along the lines of a Can-Back topper at some point and I’m currently in the process of figuring out where all this stuff that fit so nicely into my 80 is supposed to go now. I haven’t really wheeled it yet – took it out of bounds on the Biltmore Estate a couple of weeks ago during some hard rains is about it. Interesting experience – getting used to the much lighter overall vehicle (and particularly the lighter rear end) was fun. The rear locker is nice but as I knew, I had become addicted to the front locker in my 80. Time to learn to wheel all over again I guess. Anyway, I might do a dual battery setup in it at some point so my ARB fridge doesn’t leave me stranded by draining the battery. Otherwise I’m happy for now with the truck as it sits.

This truck is full circle in the off road world for me – I started with a mini truck (pictured here with my then faithful companion) and now I’m back to a somewhat less mini truck. I’m pretty well out of the rock crawling phase of my life, intend to use this for expedition type outings -- camping, fishing, hauling us and all of our stuff to the beach – that sort of thing. I’ll crawl the rocks at Katemcy though and don’t plan to baby the rig. That said, Lower 2 at Tellico is not on my agenda these days.

I do have a question for any of you who know All-Pro bumpers: are the smaller tube points on the bumpers sufficient to hook a D-ring to and pull from? If not I need to get some bigger D-rings.

Congrats on the new rig Todd, she's a beaut for sure.

Havin' a truck is nice.

That was the main motivation in this deal. The back of the 80 is not a truck. And since we moved the neighborhood truck is much more difficult to access.

Being White and the tint on the windows will make it nice in the Summer.

Bet your MPG goes up...just in time for gas prices to bottom out LOL!

I spend most of my time hunkered down in a Golf TDI perking along on biodiesel. ;p

I've been daily driving a Taco for about 5 years now and was wheeling it until a bought a dedicated 60 for that job. Great rigs that last forever, are very comforatable to drive, and have a ton of aftermarket support.

For expedition type wheeling, my favorite source of info is Baja Taco. He has some great writups and a very well built expedition rig (hint check out his dual battery setup).

For general info or really even very specific info I have found TTORA to be a great source of information with a very good search function.

Enjoy the new truck.

Been pestering the folks at TTORA for a while now. Lots of good information there. Thanks for the Baja Taco tip. :D

Yeah, second Baja Taco. Chris's rig is setup with all the doodads you would need for any family outing. And it's almost spittin image of your new rig.

Man thats a sweet Tacoma, I also have a '01, but its a PreRunner. Seeing that thing makes me wish I had spent the extra money when I bought it and got the 6cyl. If youre ever around Greensboro I'd love to take a look at it.

Pretty truck Todd...................

congrats.

nice taco..

anyone know who on mud got the red 2002 ARB Tacoma? it was in the MUD for-sale section for about 5 hours and someone snatched it up. The thread was erased. I think the guy from Toyota 4wd owner magazine posted the ad.

I believe Chris K., the president of the Toyota Trail Riders and an employee of Toyota of Dallas bought that truck...

He posts here under Valkyrie...
