I mentioned somewhere that I had painted my dash trim pieces with Hammerite (Rust Cap). I’ve had requests to post pictures, so here they are:

This is the dash before. Originally had the ‘wood’ trim pieces. Looked like hell when removed.

And after:

The first picture (of the clock) is the best example of how the texture and finish turned out. It’s harder to see in the other pictures.

:grinpimp:

The wife says I should paint the cup holder also.

Looks nice!

BTW how did you move the security, uh, button over to the other side? I want to do the CDL but don't have an open space in the dash. I've been thinking about making an extension harness to put the CDL switch where your security is. If moving the security thing is easier I'll do that instead!
Thanks!

Ron

that's different for sure. I have some black "interior trim" paint that i had thought about using. I just don't think it will cover over the scratches and goop left from the removal of the wood grain.

I used the wrinkle-finish paint to paint my center hub caps and it turned out pretty cool. But that was before i painted the wheels black !!!!!

That really looks great. Nice job.

what's the color?

Now it's only a matter of time before someone decides to use Durabak and start yet another bedliner trend...

That looks interesting. I've got a 94 with the large black tray below the shifter, and its all scratched up. I've been thinking about repainting it black, but would look a little cheesy. Can you tell me where you can purchase this Hammerite product? is it bedliner spray? I also thought about doing the wood trim, but I'm not sure if it was available for those years. Thanks

My VIP harness was toast. I just moved the LED over. In otherwords; It's not hooked up.:D

I believe there is only two colors (could be wrong). There is a silver and a dark grey. I used the darker.

BTW: My in-laws have a Sequoia. The interior trim pieces look like the Hammerite 'silver' w/ lots of clear coat. That's what gave me the original idea.

[edit]
I believe there is also a bronze color. So make that three colors.

Funny you mention that. I considered spraying mine . . .

I thought about replacing the wood trim after I bought the truck. But it's way less expensive, less hassle, and less to worry about by just painting it. I've used Hammerite before on other projects and had extra cans sitting around. It was an easy choice for me. I originally bought the Hammerite at Home Depot.

Hey that's cool thanks for posting it.

FWIW: I was at Home Depot getting some paint for my wheels :hillbilly: and saw that Rust-Oleum has a series of Hammered finishes. About a dozen colors.

great work, i loev how it looks, now i can go ahead and pull off the remaining woodlike pieces on mine

Hammerite comes to you by two companys

Kilz makes a brushable, heavy hammerite. Works great for me in seaside applications, next to the ocean. We have to stop rust. Ace Hardware carries it.

And I have seen Lowes carry it but it is made by Rustoleum.

I dont know how durable the spray rustoleum hammerite is.
But I can vouch for the Kilz brush on Hammerite. It says you can paint right over rust. But I always
sand or grind rust, then coat with hammerite (Kilz) And I have put it over some perty heavy duty rust before with great results many years later in seaside applications. It is alot cheaper than por 15.
Web site below

comes in colors and you will need to apply 2 to 3 coats
