parting out a 1982 pickup DLX with a 1989 3L (2.8 litre) diesel engine with turbo (CT20 from 2LTE) and top mount intercooler (intercooler does not fit under standard hood). transmission is on its way out. 5th gear is making horrible noises (i think it may be 5th gear idler bearings), and the u-joints are giving it up. got a new truck lined up, and this one is getting too rusty and high in miles to dump any more $ into.

i can supply almost everything needed to swap this engine into a 22R powered truck (this is a 2WD truck, a 4WD oilpan will be needed for a 4WD swap). engine has ~150,000 miles with about 25,000 left until next timing belt and valvetrain service. 10psi boost, runs cool, runs well, oil consumption is about 1/2 litre between 3,000mi intervals. motor mounts, clutch, flywheel, and bell-housing bolt pattern are all the same as 22R. gets ~30+ mpg and has tons of low end torque. religiously maintained, have all receipts.

this engine has a 2LT harmonic balancer, so that the 2LT alternator/vacuum pump is used, which is available domestically. no p/s or a/c, although i do have the original 3L p/s pump, alternator, and a/c compressor, but no harmonic balancer for 3L.

although the transmission is on its way out, it is still needed for the swap because the clutch slave cylinder is on the opposite side of the gas transmission. this is an L50 5 speed redone by marlin crawler with a G54 gearset (lower first, taller fifth) and bigger bearings (2WD, no transfer but can be added), so it is still worth repairing.

i also have a 2LT injector pump with a matching set of injectors all rebuilt with ~25,000 miles on them. this can be swapped out for the 3L pump and injectors. the 2LT pump has boost compensation (aneroid) while the 3L does not. also have a spare rebuilt CT20 turbo with less than 25,000mi. and a new-in-box stainless oil plumbing kit for CT20.

engine, transmission, above spares, along with any and all parts associated with a swap (glow plug relay, fuel filter housing, wiring, even the fuel tank, if you need it, etc.)

all for $3,000 obo + shipping. located in MD, usa. $2,700 obo if you come and pick up. or take the whole truck and part it out one's self, as-is where-is $2,200.

also have other various 1982 pickup parts for sale. doors, tail light assy., oem marker lights, grille, etc.

I'm a little confused. You say that the bell housing/output is the same, but the tranny is required? I couldn't drop this in front of a W56?

Still for sale?

yeah, still got it.

the deal with the transmission is that the clutch slave is on the opposite side (because the exhaust down pipe is also on the opposite side) of the gasser engine, the L50 transmission has an integrated bell-housing. if you don't use that, you will have to find a diesel bell-housing for your W56. this guy probably has one: Mustang Connection - 1965 - 1973 Mustang Specialists and Foreign Car Importer . failing that, a fella could probably get it to work with the gasser bell-housing with some creative exhaust routing. you don't necessarily need the transmission i have, and i'd only want the equivalent of core fee.
as a matter of fact, you would be better off tracking down a diesel bell-housing.

still for sale, make me an offer. basically what i'm offering is like a disassembled half-cut.

the spare turbo may already be spoken for.

So it is out of the truck already andthe body is separate. I know what a half cut is, but not sure of the extent of disassembled. I am pretty interested in transplanting a diesel.

How much if I came and got it and drove it up onto a trailer?

as-is, where-is: $2,200, and it's quite driveable, just no fifth gear. it also has an aluminum cap (8' bed), i'll include that and the spare injection pump, injectors and turbo, and spare stock rad redone to 3 core for $2,700 (all rebuilt with ~25,000mi on them). there's also a 4 core (huge) aluminum radiator under the hood and it is wired for two batteries in parallel. i have also set it up with an anti-sway bar in the rear, and i modified the lower control arms on the front to accept later style (post '84) torsion bars with a set of bars from downey off-road. i have more spare parts laying about that i will include as well. and there's a nice little bull bar on the front.

the body and frame really aren't that hateful, it's just that i put in about 40,000 miles a year and it's getting to be not worth fixing for what i do. let me put it to you this way, if a fella was so inclined to do the bodywork and replace the transmission, he'd actually have a nice running unit. it's been a daily driver for about 5 years and never left me stranded.

if you're still interested, i will just need about a week or so to take out the parts i need for the new truck. nothing essential, just gauges and stereo, etc. pm me if you want to talk any details.

Yeah, i think we could work something out. I would just want the as-is option since i will be dropping the 3l into a 4runner. Let me know when u have it ready and we can work something out and i will start planning a trip. No rush. I dont feel like working on much til spring anyway.

Also, any chance of getting a running video with a walk around and maybe point out some things like slave cylinder and down pipe location?

Thanks.

here's some pics. and short video starting and running.
